Behold this comment from our most noble friend — who styles himself as ‘Ryno’ — after my email the other day:
“Unsubscribe please, content is too spammy”.
With pleasure, Ryno.
I shall personally see to it that you never again must face the cruel indignity of having to read about (gasp) Australians buying up toilet paper.
Okay, so yes, it’s partly on me for emailing out of the blue after not really staying in touch with my list. My bad.
Yet here’s what I find amusing about this:
Ryno was a guy who joined my list, this same one you’re on, after watching a video I did on “How to Write a $6,000 Sales Page”.
He typed the URL into his browser and went to my website at persuasivepage.com.
He spelled out his email address into the box that said “Discover a pro copywriter’s secrets to getting more clients, making more money, and being more successful at work and life.”
You would think you know where this is going, right?
What might happen after you click that little ‘submit’ button?
Alas, not poor old Ryno.
When he got a single email from me, he panicked and didn’t know what to do …
Other than to unsubscribe, and to helpfully inform me that I was being “spammy”.
(Bless.)
Then again, he hasn’t necessarily worked with clients making literally millions of dollars a year through email, so maybe he’s ignorant of a few things …
Like the fact that, if anything, at least he just got a free example of how to write an email that actually sells stuff?
I mean, that single email got orders on a product that I publicly admitted I haven’t even finished building yet.
And perhaps he missed the good old three-part structure — blatantly on display in my email — of something interesting, something useful, and something to buy?
Anyway, plenty of lessons there for those who care to see.
But enough Ryno-bashing for now.
Let’s instead compare this to the mindset of Cam, who replied to me with:
“Hey Daniel, I’m interested if you still have space. The research part is something I always seek to improve upon – and you are right that many courses don’t go into much detail about it.”
I predict Cam will go far …
Not just from what Cam will discover from my product, but from the attitude of actively seeking to learn things you don’t know. Apply that mindset to your goals in life and you’ll be hard to stop.
Anyway, I think I’m dangerously close to my free info limit for the day …
But before I let you go for the weekend: I turned someone down yesterday, so I still have a spot left if anyone wants to pre-order my customer research product.
If you’re interested, do this:
- Email daniel@persuasivepage.com and tell me you’re interested.
- I will send you details for you to pay US$97 via a gloriously low-tech PayPal link (fully refundable in the event I decide not to go ahead with this), along with a few questions for you to answer.
- You will get the product as soon as it’s done, before anyone else, and I will ask for your feedback on it.
If you’re not interested, simply continue as you were.
(And if you would prefer to unsubscribe from further emails where you can observe interest, education, and hideously blatant sales pitches all going on at once … please join my friend Ryno by clicking the unsubscribe link below.)
Enjoy your weekend,
Daniel
